DIY Instructions for Wood Christmas Tree

Materials Needed

  • 1 in x 4 in x 4 ft board* ~Minimum, I would recommend 6ft~

  • Wood glue

  • Eye bolt

  • Router with 1/4-inch round over bit

  • Saw (for cutting)

  • Measuring tape

  • Sand Paper, Clamps, & Misc. Tools

 Cut the Wood

  • Measure and mark the following pieces on the board:

    • Six pieces measuring 18.5 mm thick, 42 mm wide, and 127 mm long.

    • One piece measuring 70 mm wide, 305 mm long, and the same thickness.

  • Cut the six pieces to the specified dimensions. Ensure the thickness is 18.5 mm and the width is 42 mm.

  • Cut the additional piece (70 mm x 305 mm) to the specified dimensions.

Angle Cuts

  • On two of the 127 mm long pieces, cut at a 30-degree angle from the width edge, length down. This angle cut will help in joining the pieces later.

  • On the other two pieces, cut at a 30-degree angle from the sides of the remaining pieces.

  • Once the cuts are made. Rinse all pieces in warm water for 30 seconds to extract the cellulose fibers for sanding. (Sand to remove fibers)

Assemble the First Half

  • Glue the first three pieces together. Ensure both angle cuts are facing the same direction and allow for a 37 mm overlap for gluing. Hold them in place until the glue sets.

Assemble the Second Half

  • Repeat the gluing process for the next set of three pieces, ensuring the angle cuts are oriented in the same manner as the first half.

Join the Two Halves

  • Once both halves are set, glue them together at the top angle cut. Apply glue along the joint and clamp, if necessary, until the glue dries. (Sand to smooth joints)

Attach Eye Bolt

  • Locate the inside middle of the top pieces. Use a drill to insert an eye bolt securely in place. Ensure it is tightened to avoid wobbling. (Use wood glue for additional support)

Round the Edges

  • Using a router with a 1/4-inch bit, carefully round the edges of all wooden pieces for a smooth finish avoiding the bottom edges. (Sand to a smooth finish)

 Attach the Base

  • Finally, glue the base piece (70 mm x 305 mm) to the bottom of the structure. ~Once the glue has set, use nails or screws to secure the fit further for additional support.

Final Check

  • Inspect all joints and ensure everything is secure and aligned before using your finished piece.

Your wood assembly is now complete! Make sure to allow adequate time for the glue to dry thoroughly before handling.
